Prof. Dr. Walter F. Thon

Urologist in Hannover

Individual consulting, high quality standards and international networking: I am a German and European board certified urologist, having collected practical experience in more than 30 years of practice in numerous renowned clinics.
Since 1995, I have been offering outpatient consultations for self-paying patients in Hanover, Germany. I treat patients from all over the world for cash payment according to the German fee scale for medical professions (GOÄ). Here I administer outpatient and inpatient urological surgery. My team and I are able to offer flexible appointment arrangements without long waiting times.
The elaborate, individual and competent consultation of my urology patients is very important to me.

About me

As a Board Certified Urologist since 1984 and Fellow of the European Board of Urology since 1993 I offer my patients a high quality urological service.
As an active member of the European Association of Urology (EAU), the American Urological Association (AUA), the Societé International Urology (SIU) and the German Urological Association (DGU) I am highly skilled in treating all urological disorders.
My academic interests are general urology, urological oncology, male sexual dysfunction and functional disorders of the lower urinary tract. As a physician I believe that continuous training and learning are an essential part of providing the best urological care.

But most importantly, I see my patients as distinct individuals with unique needs and desires. One of my most important attributes is my ability to listen to patients and to help them understand their conditions and treatment options. Each and every patient is treated with care and confidence.
My outpatient practice is an established, full service Urological Center specializing in men’s health, urological oncology, urinary stone disease, sexual dysfunction, voiding dysfunction and urinary incontinence.
The practice is fully equipped to evaluate and treat patients with a variety of urological disorders and offers the most advanced, minimally invasive treatments for both men and women.

Men with enlarged prostate and lower urinary tract symptoms (benign prostatic syndrome) are thoroughly evaluated and undergo a comprehensive urological evaluation including prostate sonography and urodynamic studies while they are simultaneously screened for prostate cancer. Patients’ treatments are tailored towards their individual needs, preferences and lifestyles. Surgical treatment options include transurethral electroresection of the prostate (TUR-Prostate) and Holmium laser enucleation (HOLEP) in larger glands.

Treating prostate cancer has never been as effective as today. My approach is one of early detection through effective screening along with early aggressive treatment. The objective is a durable and long lasting cure with minimal impact to the patients’ quality of life as well as the preservation of an active sexual life.

Patients who are unable to pass their kidney and ureteral stones through medical expulsion therapy are quickly treated utilizing the most advanced and minimally invasive techniques in stone removal including Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL), Ureteroscopic Laser Lithotripsy using Holmium Laser, and minimal Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (mini PCNL).

I screen and evaluate patients with complex urinary issues such as urinary urgency, frequency and incontinence. Patients receive a complete physical examination and then undergo various evaluations including a multichannel urodynamic study, cystoscopy. Treatments range from various medical therapies to surgical options such as bladder Botox injection, Trans-vaginal tension free tape (TVT), Transobturator Tape (TOT), and in worst cases urinary Diversion.

Patients with andrological problems (e.g. erectile dysfunction, hyposexual dysfunction) undergo comprehensive laboratory and clinical examinations. After identifying the cause, treatments range from various medical, hormonal options to surgical treatment.
